Galicia

XUNTA DE GALICIA has an annual financial program for supporting the development, production and coproduction of audiovisual projects in different formats.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Galicia, a region located in North-western Spain, has a population of 2.7 million and an autonomous government, XUNTA DE GALICIA, with specific competencies in the audiovisual sector.

Thanks to its magnificent countryside and the competence of its professionals, Galicia was the location chosen for large-scale international co-productions and major successes in Spanish film-making.

Added to this is the diversity of formats and numerous TV series and content derived from Galician Television, with excellent results both in fiction as well as in documentary genres.

Galicia is in a favourable position for receiving future investment, as well as becoming a pace setter in the audiovisual sector. This is due not only to the entrepreneurialism of its corporate infrastructure, but also to its solid roster of producers, screenwriters, technicians and actors.

But our heritage does not end there: we possess magnificent natural resources, from mountains to hundreds of kilometres of coastline, and a wealth of outstanding cultural and architectural treasures.

All this drives us to seek new opportunities and challenges throughout the world, new screens for our productions and new paths to open.

OUR TAX INCENTIVES

Galicia, in addition to the 30% tax rebate in Spain for international co-productions (www.shootinginspain.info/en/tax-incentives-1), offers an automatic grant to shoot fiction and animation projects in the region. This initiative, set in the HUB Audiovisual and Cultural Industry of Xunta de Galicia has as its objective to keep spreading the audiovisual local talent and our beautiful landscapes around the world.

Main features of the grant

  • Minimum expenditure in Galicia: € 1.000.000 for full-length animation or fiction films. € 1.500.000 for fiction series.
  • Agile management with easy resolution (in less than a month).
  • Local media exposure as a promotional tool.
  • The amount given ranges between € 350.000 per co-production and € 300.000 per service.

Who can apply?

Furtherance and promotion of audiovisual shooting

The beneficiaries of this economic aid for filming in Galicia can be freelance workers or legally established audiovisual producers with a minimum one-year seniority and a permanent branch in Galicia or in a European Economic Area Member State subscribed to this agreement.

Only producers who have a share in the audiovisual project equal to or greater than 20%, or who have a contract to assume production services in Galicia at the moment of submitting the application may participate in this call. In both cases, companies must designate an experienced executive producer that works or lives in Galicia as in charge representative.

SHOWREEL

Our Locations and Sets

Our region has the unique magic of an ancient, vast and green atlantic land that is among the best natural landscapes in the country. There are dozens of myths and legends around these places, and a lot of productions describe every inch of the terrain and their attractive features, reflecting architecture, geography and climatology. This landscape is dotted with lush forests, wide-flowing rivers, gentle slope mountains and astonishing coasts. A perfect environment for fiction projects which want to capture the essence and light of a historical and mysterious region.

As it is worldwide known, Galicia harbors the Santiago Cathedral, an iconic place for pilgrims that combines Romanesque and Baroque architecture, among other styles. There are also monasteries and other constructions from all eras, as well as modern buildings, which make up a large and diverse natural and urban scene.
